Visual development project. I wanted to practice my character design-skills, as well as getting a bigger understanding for the field of visual development. 

I wanted to create a universe which could be in the form of an animated film, cartoon, comic or illustrated novel for children. As a saami woman, I wanted to explore saami mythology, and create a universe for everyone to enjoy, but especially for saami children! 

I started with creating the main character, Áile. She is an adventurous and brave girl, albeit a bit naive. She eventually meets the magpie Skire, which ends up being her trusty side-kick! They both embark on a journey where they meet villains such as Stállu (a human/troll-like creature in saami mythology), and Aurora, who is the physical manifestation of the northeren lights. Áile has a childhood bestfriend/love-interest named Jovnna, who himself is on a journey to become a noaidi (shaman). 

One day I want to explore this universe more, maybe in the form of a comic, create model sheets for the characters, and in general create more illustrations where the characters interact with each other and the environment!
